April, May and June are some of my very favorite months to fish on Baffin Bay! The fish are plentiful, they are big and they are HUNGRY!
Look for very active mullet near drops, sand bars and grassy areas with sand pockets. Any structure that hold lots of bait will attract these big, hungry, motivated trout.
Use the wind to your benefit. Big predators like some wind as it gives them a little cover to ambush their prey. Watch for slicks that prove that trout are feeding in an area. Solunar feeding periods help to really focus on the times that the fish are likely feeding.
Texas Custom Corky’s, both the Fat Boy and the Softdine, are easy meals just by virtue of their size profile and their action along the bottom, not to mention the rattles imbedded inside that cause a vibration. Coastal Brew darts in both the 6”and 5” sizes have been deadly this year. Choose natural colors in either light or dark colors depending on the water color or the weather. Light jig heads are very effective with these lures as they really dart around uncontrollably enticing a strike on a seemingly injured baitfish. The Down South Big Smooth is equally effective.
This is top water time as well! If you see any feeding activity on top, tie on a She Dog and hang on!
Tight Lines!
